Weekly Blog- 3D TV's

My name is Derick Faust and for assignment 2-1 we were required to write a paper in regards to something we believe to be important in current popular culture and what it means to us individually. I am going to be posting this on my blog page as well for viewers to see. The pop culture topic that I will be discussing about is the new wave of 3D televisions. I want to seek some others opinion s about the product because I personally don’t think too highly of it. I will include the topic of myths to some degree in this paper as well since it was a topic this week.
The topic that I chose for this week’s analysis is going to be on 3d Televisions that have just recently come out. I will give my thoughts on the topic and hopefully some viewers on the blog will respond as well. The reason that I chose this is because I do not believe it to be cost effective and it is simply not worth paying the price. The manufacturers and producers of these TV’s try to implement the myth that it is like real life and the images seem so realistic, when in fact, they do not portray that in the slightest fashion. I have seen one and did not think to highly of it. The literary and some popular culture aspects of the American Myth of Success have received significant attention, which in this cause does not (Gallagher, 1998).
From all the information I have gathered the myth that these TVs that make images seem so realistic is not true. Granted this is something based upon my own opinion. With all things aside, it does however have the credentials to become an icon if it has not already. But then on the other hand, a source stated this: “There is at present, however, no sustained study of the ways which has played its part in the continual creation, transmission, and testing of the myth of success”. (Gallagher, 1998). I still think that with time it will become one of the more popular iconic figures like the DVD player was when it replaced the VCR. It is the best similarity that I could come up with and relate it to the topic at the same time.

Assignment 2-2- Contemporary Icons

My name is Derick Faust and for assignment 2-2 we were required to write a paper in regards to contemporary icons that we believe to be important in current popular culture and what it means to use individually. I am going to be posting this on my blog page as well for viewers to see. The three icons that I will be discussing about are as follows: Rocky Balboa, Wolverine, and Dan Marino.
The first portion of this paper requires the student to actually scribe the three icons that we chose. I would first like to define popular culture because these are popular iconic figures to me. According to page one of our text popular culture is defined as the system of attitudes, behavior patterns, customs, tastes, and beliefs (Browne, 2005).It also states that it is the entertainment, diversions, icons, rituals, and actions that shape a society’s everyday world (Browne, 2005).  The first icon that I choose was Rocky Balboa. This is because his character and films show that the determination and fight of an individual always overcomes the adversities that are thrown your way in life. That is my own personal interpretation of the films and character, so to me it is iconic for those reasons.
The other iconic figure that I chose was Wolverine. Although he is a comic character I find him iconic because he represents many of the same things that the Rocky character portrays as well. He shows no remorse for his actions and puts fear into everything he comes across. This is an iconic symbol of fear and power, both which grasps my attention.  Finally, the third iconic figure that I chose was Dan Marino who was a quarterback of the Miami Dolphins from 1984-2000. He was the face of that franchise and he is still the iconic symbol of that franchise. He also showed no fear and did what he did to perfection. As one could tell, I respect people who are not afraid and wont quite as well as being a leader, because quite simply those iconic images portray me in a way.
These icons show a sense of path and direction for me. I put myself in their shoes (although some may seem unrealistic, you just have to go into a certain state of mind) and believe that if they can do well then so can I. These icons show me not to fear things like most normal people do and to never give up. I see these things as a source of inspiration believe it or not. Rocky Balboa showed me to never give up even when the chances were slim and to always get back up. Wolverine showed that there is no need to have fear and to channel your anger in a means that is best for you. Dan Marino showed me how to simply never give up on anything and leadership as well. To me, these are the three main fundamentals to have in order to be successful in life.

Pop Culture Blog- D.Faust-2

The first portion of this paper requires the student to actually define the meaning of popular culture and explain what it means to us individually. According to page one of our text popular culture is defined as the system of attitudes, behavior patterns, customs, tastes, and beliefs (Browne, 2005).It also states that it is the entertainment, diversions, icons, rituals, and actions that shape a society’s everyday world (Browne, 2005).  The second portion of this question is what popular culture means to me. Well it affects the way we do things in life everyday because it makes us act in a certain way or at times ways. I believe that it is highly important because the culture of one generation needs to be passed on along so that the new generations can learn from the old.
The next portion of this paper will be in regards to describing and understanding why popular culture is relevant to the business environment and future career. Well it is important to me in both ways considering I am getting my degrees in business in marketing so a thorough understanding of this concept is critical for me. From what I have gather it is important because it is what sets trends and it is how people tend to act. This affects businesses because they have to shift the markets to meet certain needs in or to gain a profit. In order to do that, they must be able to identify the culture of the market and their tendencies. It is how new trends get set, what historical movements take place- things of that nature.
The last portion of this paper will be in regards to the following question: What is an example of a pop culture artifact and why would you choose it?  I would consider the internet as a popular culture artifact because it changed the world. It is probably the single most important artifact out of any civilization besides maybe the creation of the wheel because of its power and availability across the world. It affects each and every single person life in one way or another if you know it or not. A more recent pop culture artifact would be the Twin Towers memorial in New York City. Simply because of what had happened there and what that day was like.

Keep Henne as quarterback for the Miami Dolphins

The first portion of this paper requires the student to actually define the meaning of popular culture. Well I have been a Chad Henne fan since he was a rookie at the University of Michigan and he is the all time passing leader and holds many more school records. He has had some issues, but he has played with a sprained knee and no offensive line all season and he still throws for 3,302 yards with 15 touchdowns. That’s his stats and he missed two games.
There is also no running game to go along with it so it pressures the young quarterback even more. You can’t throw someone in a fire and expect the not to get burnt is all I am trying to say.  They need to be patient with this kid and give him the tools and help that he needs and im positive that he will prove to be one of the best. I actually prayed that we would draft him on draft day and God answered back, so I know its destiny. He has all the tools, we just have to show some faith and patience.
